Traditional suits, wild prints, leather and shiny outfits round out the looks from Milan Men’s Fashion Week.

Fabrics combinations

Fall 2012 is the perfect time for fabric combinations. Vivienne Westwood, Raf Simons (for Jill Sanders) and John Varvatos are just some of the designers who showed fabric combos in their collections. The main idea is to separate the sleeves from the body, and sleeves were therefore usually made from a different cloth. The most extreme take on this look was by designer Tomas Maier (Bottega Veneta), who used collage fabrics to craft an amazing jacket.

Animal prints

Fall 2012 may very well bring Men in sweaters with eagles, foxes, cats and other animals adorned on them. Burberry Prosum went for owls and cats; Vivienne Westwood sported eagles and Raf Simons designed sweaters with whales and dinosaurs on them. A bit childish - or one of the more precious trends in menswear? We can’t decide.

Do you like this theme? Would you buy a sweater with a whale printed on it?

Leather

Hard, stiff leather ruled the Milan runways. Most designers used this material for long jackets and coats. Salvetore Ferragamo presented leather coats with fur collars and Armani showed off nice vests made of hard leather. Those items look extremely sexy on stage, will that same sex appeal work off the runway too?

Prints

A huge trend for women, now men are slated to wear head-to-toe printed outfits as well. Roberto Cavalli designed a zebra printed suit, Moschino’s collection was inspired from interior design motifs and Prada presented a beautiful printed collage.

Time to Shine

Many Italian fashion designers brought out the shiny/bright elements in their recent collections. Among them, John Richmond presented a grey blazer made of what looked like fish scales. Apart from Richmond, Alexander McQueen presented shiny red underwear and Bottega Veneta showed how plastic and silver can be molded into surprisingly fashionable garments.

Traditional fashion

It wouldn’t be Milan Men’s Fashion without the Dolce & Gabbana show. The design duo presented yet another breathtaking men’s collection, inspired by “traditional Italian families.” The high figure trousers, hats and printed coats were nothing less than amazing.
