What is a First Face? And how does a model win a coveted FashionTV First Face honor. Each season, FashionTV, the 24/7 style, lifestyle, and entertainment channel makes a countdown of the top 10 models that opened the most
Isabeli Fontanashows. These are not only the most exclusive headlining models that have opened the most shows for that season, but they also prove to be the top models in the industry.
Why is it so important for a model to open a top designer's show? Each model chosen to open a show is a model the designer feels represents the style of their collection—her face, body, walk, and look. She is the symbol of the collection and the one that caters to the designer's type of customer.
First Faces have already proven to be the faces of particular brands, highlighted in designer's top ad campaigns and dozens of magazine covers. Brazilian model Isabeli Fontana is the face of Dolce & Gabbana. American model Lindsey Wixson is the face of Versace. Danish model Freja Beha Erichsen has been featured on countless magazine covers including British Vogue and Chinese Vogue. She's also a noted muse for designer Karl Lagerfeld. Mariacarla Boscano, a past featured First Face was the face of Givenchy. Chanel Iman, Candice Swanepoel, and Lily Donaldson are all Victoria's Secret Angels.

This means that the #1 First Face is the most successful model of the season, with the most designers choosing her to represent them. Stepping on to the runway, these models project that perfect image. First Face countdowns highlight the top 10 First Faces, but they also spotlight the top opening models from each major Fashion Week –New York, London, Milan, and Paris.
Models who have become FashionTV First Faces include everyone from newcomer Zuzanna Bijoch to experienced models Gemma Ward and Alek Wek.
“It's always a special feeling to open a show,” top model Natasha Poly said in 2009 when she opened the Alexander Wang show in Fall/Winner 2009/2010,”because it gives a vibe.”
While it's an honor to be chosen to open a show, the models chosen to be a FashionTV First Face are honored to receive the award. As top American model Karlie Kloss exclaimed when she heard she received the #1 spot for
Spring/Summer 2011, “I still have goosebumps when I think about it. I cannot believe I was #1, “ she says, “That's an accomplishment of a lifetime.”
Through the years, the biggest models in the world have been FashionTV First Faces. Models that were also First Faces include Liya Kebede, Bianca Balti, Hilary Rhoda, Abbey Lee Kershaw, Monika “Jac” Jagaciak, and Victoria's Secret Angels Anja Rubik, Jourdan Dunn, and Behati Prinsloo.
The First Face countdown began in the Spring/Summer 2006 season, when FashionTV's first ever winners included the likes of Gemma Ward, who opened 9 shows, Caroline Tretini, who opened 8 shows, and Isabeli Fontana, who opened 7 shows. Last season, American model Arizona Muse took the top spot with Dutch model Daphne Groeneveld taking #2.
FashionTV is ready to announce its Spring 2012 First Face lineup with a bevy of beautiful ladies ready to represent the top designers. Are you excited? The First Face countdown will be officially announced on November 24, 2011.
