A Fashion Finale: Paris Fashion Week Spring 2013
You hear the word Paris, you think style, haute couture, and some of the most refined fashion houses in the world: Chanel, Yves Saint Laurent, Louis Vuitton, and more. FashionTV’s next stop is Paris.
There, we’ll be rubbing shoulders with some of the world’s greatest designers and bringing all the news straight to your seat from Paris Fashion Week!
To Paris. With Love.
“Parlez-vous fashion?” This will be the “IT” question on everyone’s lips in the Parisian streets from Tuesday, as fashion week moves to its fourth and final destination. And what a whirlwind fashion season it has been, with back-to-back shows hitting New York, London, Milan, and now Paris.
Sigh, it’s nearly over! And the trends for Spring/Summer 2013 have almost been defined; with high street designers waiting pen-and-paper-at-the-ready to transcend the past weeks high fashions to the high street. So what can we expect from the final few days in Paris this season? Will FashionTV’s model of the week Marine Deleeuw be making more opening appearances on the catwalk? And will Kanye West be showcasing his fashion line again?
Well, one thing’s for sure -- Kanye West will not be showing his collection at Paris Fashion Week this time around, as WWD have revealed. West first debuted as a designer in Paris showing his Spring and Fall 2012 collections back in 2011, but recent news have sparked speculation that his label is currently experiencing a little taste of the fickle world of fashion lately! Stay tuned with FashionTV to find out what happens next.
Meanwhile, fashion week in Paris will see designer Hedi Slimane showing his first collection for the newly-renamed Saint Laurent, on October 1. Recently unveiling his new campaign for the label, Slimane has cast musician, Christopher Owens, to front a series of images soon to be released by the fashion house. Perhaps we can look forward to a more rock ‘n’ roll-inspired take on the Saint Laurent SS13 look, thanks to Owen’s uncanny Kurt Cobain resemblance. FashionTV says, “watch this space!”
Back to Spring/Summer 2012
Last Spring’s lookbook for Paris stretched the design spectrum from demure to dominatrix. Marc Jacobs, designing for Louis Vuitton created prim and lacy looks for the LV ladies, who were set against the backdrop of an all white carousel, somewhat capturing the Early ‘60s spirit. And Kate Moss appeared in a babydoll dress, for the closing of Jacobs’ Vuitton collection. Question being, will Moss be making an appearance on the runway this season?
Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen showed us her super-sexy tailored cuts and lace caps, which were all the talk last Spring. Take a look at the exquisite bat-enveloping lace dress, that works its way up into a mask covering the models head, in a feminine yet dominatrix-esque way.
While last Spring, Chanel helmer, Karl Lagerfeld transported us to the world of underwater adventure: using corals, seahorses, shells, and pearls on the runway to create a magical deep sea for the siren models to walk, a theme recently followed in Alberta Ferretti’s SS13 collection at Milan Fashion Week. This was turned out to be the show of all shows, when Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine took to the stage to perform for the final leg of Chanel’s fashion show.
Lagerfeld recently revealed that he thinks Carol Middleton is more attractive than her daughters! Maybe we have spotted an early Lagerfeld muse-in-the-making! The Chanel SS13 show takes place first thing Tuesday morning, which means it’s going to be an early wakeup call for FashionTV team... oh well, I’m sure we can think of worst things to be doing.
We’ve taken out the highlighter and marked up our 30 favorite shows for Paris Fashion Week, with the likes of Rochas, Balenciaga, Manish Arora, Nina Ricci, Christian Dior, Victor & Rolf, Cacharel, Vivienne Westwood, Jean Paul Gaultier, Celine, Hermes, John Galliano, Givenchy, Stella McCartney, Chloe, Saint Laurent, Chanel, Paul & Joe, Alexander McQueen, Louis Vuitton, and Miu Miu amongst just some of our hot list! Looks like we’re going to have a busy week ahead. Stay tuned with FashionTV for all the latest about Paris Fashion Week.
