For the first time in history, Chanel has chosen a male as the face of their classic No. 5 fragrance.

Karl Lagerfeld, the chief designer of the couture fashion house has signed Brad Pitt as his new muse for the iconic scent. The Hollywood actor will star in both an ad campaign and in a video clip for the luxurious fragrance.

Chanel No. 5 was the first fragrance to be launched by Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel. It was developed and launched in the 20s, under the theme of liberated spirit. Throughout the years, the scent gained worldwide popularity and iconic stature, and throughout its history, female celebrities have always been the stars of its sexy-yet-luxurious ad campaigns.

Chief designer of the Parisian couture fashion house, Karl Lagerfeld, has decided that the right face for fragrance should be a man; and not just any man, he chose a hunk, who according to many, is engaged to one of the most beautiful women on earth, a man that went from being just a pretty face, to becoming a talented producer and an activist, and of course a man that not many ladies can say no to. We are talking about Brad Pitt, the new face of Chanel No. 5.

Throughout the years, Chanel has chosen the faces of its brand very carefully. Female celebrities that were chosen for the spot possessed a unique combination of sex appeal, sophistication and eternal beauty. Nicole Kidman and Catherine Deneuve are two of the previous faces of the brand. Since 2008, the face of Chanel No. 5 was the beautiful and delicate French actress Audrey Tautou. Ninety years after the fragrance first launched to the public, top designer Karl Lagerfeld has decided that it is the right time to bring some new spirit to the iconic fragrance's worldwide ad campaigns.

The big question is whether Pitt is going to be the face of the women's fragrance. The other option is that the French couture fashion house will launch a men's version of Chanel No. 5. Either way, the fact that Pitt has been chosen as the Chanel No. 5 face is very interesting and exciting.
