Dree Hemingway – The Fashionable Great-Granddaughter of Ernest Hemingway| FashionTV’s Model of the Week

Posted on 10th August 2012 | Model of the Week

Dree Hemingway is a ballerina turned model.  She started modeling when she was a high school student. Once her school days were over, she decided to go further with her new career.

At the age of 18 Hintmag.com featured Hemingway as one of the most promising models. 3 years later, in 2008, models.com announced Hemingway as a rising star.

Rocking the Runway

Dree Hemingway made her first appearance on the catwalks in Givenchy’s Fall 2009 fashion show in Paris. During the same year, she also modeled for Calvin Klein’s resort show in New York.

Before the Spring 2010 fashion week season began, Hemingway was already a popular model and booked for many runways. She opened the Topshop fashion show in London, and also walked for Karl Lagerfeld, Chanel, Giles, Rue du Mail and House of Holland during London and Paris fashion weeks.

Cover Girl

In 2009 Dree Hemingway landed on her first fashion magazine cover. Photographer Alasdair McLellan photographed her for the cover of Russian Vogue. That same year, Hemingway posed for Thierry Le Goues on the cover of the French Revue de Modes.

Between 2010 – 2011 the American model was photographed for 3 more fashion magazine covers. First it was i-D, then Bryan Adams photographed her for the cover of Zoo magazine and finally it was Sebastian Faena who pictured Hemingway for the cover of the Turkish Vogue.

Apart from those covers, Hemingway graced on countless editorials and fashion productions. Among other she was photographed for Spanish, British, French, Russian, Japanese and Teen Vogue, Numero, LOVE, W and many other fashion magazines.

Ad Star

Though her catwalk career isn’t as fruitful as others, she outdoes some of the biggest models in the world in the ad campaign department. Dree Hemingway has collaborated with some of the world’s greatest fashion houses. In 2009 she became one of the faces of Gucci, and was photographed by Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin.

In 2010, the American model was chosen by 3 major fashion houses to lead their campaigns. Jean Paul Gaultier, Valentino and Gianfranco Ferre have all announced Hemingway as their brand’s face. Young Dree also led the campaign for Salvatore Ferragamo’s perfume – “Attimo.”  Hemingway also starred in advertising campaigns for H&M, Chanel, Paco Rabanne and more.

In 2011, Hemingway was chosen to star in the Diesel Black Gold Fall ad campaign.

Fashion Forward

Aside from being a model, Dree Hemingway dreams of becoming a movie star. Her idols are Katharine Hepburn and Audrey Hepburn. The question is: Will she forgo the acting career for modeling for now? We’d like to think so.  After all, the fashion industry still can’t get enough of her high cheekbones, blue eyes and photogenic features.
