Futuristic Fashion: Visionary or Wishful Thinking?

Posted on 12th August 2012 | Designers

Fashion designers are constantly creating the next big thing in fashion for the upcoming season. But what about fashion for the foreseeable future? Well, that’s on its way, too, at least where these designers are concerned.

With extremely innovative collections, visual effects, and lots of imagination, here are three fashion shows that are making the future of fashion that much brighter.

Franck Sorbier Couture

While other top designers use models to present their new collection, Franck Sorbier has gone a totally different direction.  His futuristic couture fashion show included only one model, wearing a totally white floor length gown. The theme of this show was “impossible gowns”, inspired by the 17th century medieval story of Donkeyskin. The story is about a king who wanted to marry his own daughter. She managed to avoid the marriage by demanding a series of gowns that are practically impossible to create.

French designer Sorbier decided to try and make the impossible possible by creating those impossible gowns, his way. Sorbier used Intel software for hi-tech effects projected on the model’s dress,  creating unique prints and great innovative designs. Thierry Mugler Presents: Lady Gaga

One of the most certain things about Thierry Mugler’s fashion house is that typical trends and fashion rules have no room on his catwalk. This clip features Nicola Formichetti’s first collection for Mugler with a guest appearance from Lady Gaga.

The pop diva hit the catwalks for the very first time and added a new sexy futuristic atmosphere to the whole fashion show. Top models on the runway presented awesome accessories, mostly made of latex, plastic and other unique fabrics. The makeup and the soundtrack also assist the futuristic, dramatic and uber-sexy show on the stage. Hmm, is the future going to be all about breasts…

Hussein Chalayan – Paris 2007

The British / Turkish fashion designer presented a futuristic show, which included lots of gadgets. According to Chalayan, technology will one day rule the world, therefore the models won’t need to walk the runway, but stay still, while the clothes are changing on them in front of the crowd.

If you would like to add layers to a dress, or think that transparent appearance is more appropriate, Chalayan has already figured out how to do it for you as you wear them. Watch the video below and check out the exciting moment of when fashion and high technology meet.
