High Fashion At Milan Fashion Week
Milan Fashion Week has arrived and day one has already seen some of the most glamorous labels in fashion flaunt their collections, taking you on a trip back to the ‘60s or on an underwater adventure.
FashionTV reviews the new Spring looks of Italian design.
Gucci: A Royal Affair
Theme: Late ‘60s - early ‘70s color clash revival
The Look: The Gucci woman has forever and will forever epitomize the meaning of hard-edged glamour and SS13 saw no exception. This season, Creative Director, Frida Giannini ditched the dominantly black Gucci signature and took us back to the swinging ‘60s with a playful take on Spring colors for her “aristographic” collection of floor length tunics and trouser suit combinations, detailed with flare and ruffles. Perhaps the name has something to do with the recent collaboration with royal Monaco beauty, Charlotte Casiraghi, for the latest Gucci campaign.
Her choice of color palette was nothing less than bold and statement making, dressing the models in head-to-toe block colors of azalea pink, mustard yellow, turquoise blues and greens, monochrome, and her iconic prints; reptile and floral. Yet despite the predominantly minimal designs that hit the catwalk, it was the statement lone splice in the centre of a trouser suit, majestic ruffles that delicately danced around collars or sleeves, and jeweled necklaces that did all the talking. A magnificent contrast to Gucci’s Fall 2012 gothic collection. FashionTV will be keeping an eye out for celebrities red carpet moments in Spring Gucci apparel.
Hair & Makeup: Long lashes, glowing skin, peach blush, nude lips. Sophisticated, centrally parted hair, knotted in a low bun.
Music: Electronic trip beats
Front Row: Charlotte Casiraghi (Monaco royalty), Emmanuelle Alt (Vogue Paris editor-in-chief), Anna Dello Russo (fashionista), BryanBoy (blogger), Livia Firth (designer and wife to Colin Firth)
Where to Wear: Rock the Milanese roads, where anything goes, in these bold trouser suits, or dazzle an exclusive evening affair draped in Gucci ruffles and jeweled collars.

Alberta Ferretti: Underwater Fantasy
Theme: An underwater adventure
The Look: Movement, fluidity, and sea creatures carried Ferretti’s inspiration for SS13 collection, where light, sheer, and iridescent fabrics romantically glided down the runway with every motion made by the models -- appearing like a shimmering parade of beautiful mermaids.
The combination of aquamarine hues, lace embroidery, and seaweed appliqués applied to Ferretti’s angelic dresses was topped with wet-look hair and at times, models appeared near-nude, merely wrapped in the mystical debris lurking in the depths of the ocean.
This collection seemed to tap into fantastical female dreams of being washed up on shore, as Daryl Hanna appeared in ‘80s classic movie “Splash,” and having that passionate underwater mermaid kiss!
Hair & Makeup: Wet-look gelled hair, dewy complexions.
Music: Underwater orchestral strings and bubbles
Where to Wear: Ferretti’s romantic Spring collection perfectly suits a sophisticated beach club gathering, garden parties, or summer weddings.
