Hip hop and fashion have gone together more than any other music genre around, mostly because hip hop has grown to be much more than just about the music, but a whole lifestyle.

Entrepreneur rappers that have come to realize the power of launching their own clothing lines have often struck gold. And it is not uncommon for hip hop celebrities to have joint ventures with fashion brands on specific collections.

But building a fashion empire takes a lot more than just having a famous name, it means a lot of hard work, dedication, and most of all -- you have to have real style! Particularly in the hip hop urban world, where trends change every second and is inspired right from the streets.

Sean John

Puff Daddy, aka Sean Combs, started his official clothing collection, Sean John, in 1998. Though the franchise has seen its ups and downs over the years, all in all the brand has survived big time and is continuing to grow. Sean John specializes in men’s suits, men’s fragrances, and big-sized clothing for boys.

Rocawear

One of the most successful hip hop brands, is Jay Z’s Rocawear label. It initially started out as a footwear brand for young men and later evolved into many other lines such as women's wear, men’s clothing, accessories, and more. In 2007, Jay Z sold the company for $204M , but is still heavily invested in the brand.

Billionaire Boys Club/ Ice Cream

From the earliest stages of his career, Pharrell Williams, showed the world that he has style. Whether it be in his inventive new beats with band N.E.R.D, or as a hit-selling record producer for various artists, it seems like everything he touches turns to gold. Williams founded his clothing brand in 2005 with Nigo, founder of BAPE. The brand is mostly produced in Japan, and features high-end and expensive “streetwear” items, ranging from denim pants to socks.

A.K.O.O.

“A King of Oneself,” or A.K.O.O. is an American urban apparel brand for men founded by T.I. and Jason Geter; both from Atlanta-based record label, Grand Hustle Records. The company sells shirts, cardigans, sweaters, leather jackets, and denim wear.

Trukfit

Inspired by skateboarding, record artist Lil Wayne, designed his brand Trukfit to be a very colorful and affordable collection. It is definitely one of the most fun online shops to browse, displaying everything from boxer shorts to hoodies and hats.
