Is Britain ready for Stella McCartney's Olympic uniform?
Sports and fashion can go together, and when it comes to Great Britain's team for the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games in London, there are no compromises. Designer Stella McCartney went back to her roots and created a collection for the GB team.
FashionTV has your inside scoop on the winning line. After all, looking good is sometimes as important as coming first in the competition...
England is hosting the Olympic games this summer. While stadiums, Olympic-size swimming pools and other facilities are being built, journalists and athletes have already come to the Tower of London to see what the Great Britain team will wear during the event. The Adidas by Stella McCartney collection plans to make all the athletes look like one team, and fight harder across 46 sports competitions.
Designing uniforms for the Olympic team is not an easy task. McCartney spent almost 8 years creating the perfect combination in clothes for style makers and sportsmen. At a press conference for the line, she said closely working with the national team made her understand how devoted and professional they are, and made her feel proud to be British.
This is the first time a top fashion designer is responsible for creating one uniform for an entire squad. "I thought it would be great if design could make everyone feel like one team”, she said when revealing the new Adidas designs.
Though McCartney needed to create uniforms that will assist athletes in being the best competitors they can be, she didn't forget her eco beliefs. Part of the Adidas by Stella McCartney specialist sportswear is eco friendly, and made from recycled synthetics. Now the only question is whether the Olympic environment will be friendly for the GB team? Will Adidas by Stella McCartney help bring England more gold, silver and bronze medals than usual? We’ll have to wait until July to find out!
