Josephine Skriver- The Soccer Player Turned Model | FashionTV’s Model of the Week
The Danish, blonde, blue eyed, beauty with an immense passion for soccer was nearly ruled out by modeling scouts for being “too pretty”. However, the stunner is now making her way to the top, modeling for some of the best designers and landing important ad campaigns. Josephine Skriver is our model of the week!
Did you ever think that a woman could be too beautiful to become a model? In the case of Danish beauty Josephine Skriver, her stunning looks nearly banned her from the catwalks. Because of her exceptional beauty, model scouts were weary of putting Skriver on the runway because they feared that fans would be so amazed by her looks that they would ignore the clothes she modeled. Luckily, they didn’t make the mistake of keeping her off the catwalks, and we’ve gained a young and promising model.
Josephine Skriver was born April 14, 1993 in Denmark. As a young girl Skriver loved to play soccer and on a trip to New York with her soccer team, she caught the eye of a modeling agent. Once she was back in Denmark, Skriver sent the agency Polaroids of herself; shortly afterwards, her modeling career began.
Rocking the Runway
Josephine Skriver debut season as a professional model was during fall 2011. Her big break that season came when she opened for Alberta Ferretti and closed for Prada. Other than those two highlights, she walked for Gucci, Dolce & Gabbana, Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent, Valentino, Calvin Klein, Philosophy di Alberta Ferretti, and many more prominent designers.
By the spring 2012 Fashion Week season, Josephine Skriver’s name was already familiar. Amongst many appearances on the runways of established brands, she opened and closed the House of Holland show, was the first face at both the Adam and Jaeger shows, and closed the show for Ports 1961. Skriver was also very popular during the Fall 2012/13 season, in which she walked for John Galliano, Valentino, Lanvin, Cacharel, and Paco Rabanne.
Despite her young age, Josephine Skriver has already appeared on the covers and editorials of several top fashion magazines. The talented top fashion photographer Steven Meisel shot her for the cover of Italian Vogue and Greg Kadel manned the camera when Skriver posed for the German version of the magazine.
She also appeared on the cover of Danish Elle in a sexy, yet innocent, photograph.
Campaign directors also fell in love with Josephine Skriver’s stunning look. In 2011, the model starred in Bvlgari’s Omnia Coral fragrance ad, and was featured in campaigns for Gucci, MaxMara, and H&M.
For Josephine Skriver, her successful modeling career hasn’t replaced her love for soccer. She loves to play the sport every chance she gets. However, her gorgeous blond hair, piercing blue eyes, and perfect figure makes us think that she truly belongs on the catwalk. But who knows?
Maybe Skriver will star in a campaign alongside soccer stud David Beckham one day. Until that day arrives, we will be happy to see more of this Danish beauty on the runway and in the glossies, because we know that she is on her way to top model status.
