If Karl Lagerfeld called you “a little too fat,” but after a while sent you a few Chanel bags as an apology, would you forgive him? In the case of Grammy-winner Adele, things aren’t so simple.

Karl Lagerfeld is very well known for his genius designs, but also for his critical nature. Not long ago, Lagerfeld interviewed with Metro magazine during which he said that Adele is “a little too fat, but she has a beautiful face and a divine voice.” Bloggers, journalists, and even many women’s organization thought that Lagerfeld was out of line, and called on him to take back his words.

The top designer didn’t ignore the comments, and according to news reports, decided to apologize. Whereas a common person would have phoned to simply say, “I’m sorry,” Lagerfeld’s apology was a bit more extravagant. As requested, he was interviewed again and claimed that his quotes were taken out of context and that he is one of Adele’s biggest admirers. However, on top of all that, according to “The Sun,” Lagerfeld also sent the British singer some of Chanel’s most uniquely designed handbags.

This gesture was no coincidence; Lagerfeld found out that handbags are Adele’s weakness and favorite accessory, so he used the iconic purse in order to further prove his apology. He was also quoted saying that he would like to collaborate with the Grammy-winner in the near future; for example, Adele could be the new face of Chanel Mademoiselle bags once Blake Lively’s contract ends.

Although Lagerfeld tried his best to reconcile with Adele, the singer hasn’t released any public statement on the matter yet. Considering her constantly flourishing career and musical achievement, it’s no doubt that this little piece of drama has gained her even more popularity. Will we see her as the new face of Chanel in the near future? It’s too soon to tell, but with all the love and sympathy she receives from all over the world, it’s pretty certain that she will gain an ad contract with one fashion house or another.
