High Fashion At Milan Fashion Week

Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013: Be Dazzled

Posted on 25th September 2012 | Milan Fashion Week Spring 2013

FashionTV has been glued to the runway, admiring the finest of catwalkers at Milan Fashion Week and we thought it only fair to let you in on a bit of the action!

Check out what’s been happening at the penultimate fashion destination this week with our behind-the-scenes scoop -- we’re talking trends, model behavior, celebrity shenanigans, and more!

We’ve seen backstage antics from model and current face of Burberry, Cara Delevingne, flirting with the camera like only she knows; Beth Ditto bringing down the house at the Versus fuschia and fruity catwalk display; and George Clooney's ex, Elisabetta Canalis and her drop-dead-gorgeous bikini body stealing the limelight at Miss Bikini’s SS13 collection... and that’s just to start!

A Star Affair

Milan Fashion Week has been a star studded event that could give even Hollywood a run for its money, and the Milanese certainly know how to host a fashion affair both on and off the catwalk! The amazing lineup of parties have seen names like Sharon Stone, Azealia Banks, and American DJ Solange Knowles peppering around. Stone, who turned up in a lace Cavalli dress at the annual amfAR bash, was accompanied by toy boy lover, and 30-years her junior model Martin Mica, who was ready by her side on the front row at Fendi SS13, showing us she’s still got it!

Meanwhile, the chicest of chic, Kate Moss was busy running about town promoting Liu Jo (she is the new face), and of course making some front-row appearances, while Anna Dello Russo continued to wave the fashion flag at numerous (we’ve stopped counting) Milanese shows... and what’s a fashion week without ADR and her eccentric accessories?

Runway Report

While the glitz, glam, and partying rolled from day to night at exclusive designer events, charity affairs, and promotional parties, a more creative affair was taking place on the runways dotted around the city -- where Italian and other designers brought their pièce de résistance to our attention with an air of debonair.

So what caught FashionTV’s eye? This Milan Fashion Week celebrated Asian-inspired pieces, where Kimono jackets and Japanese prints soon developed into a theme: just take a look at Pucci, Prada, Veronica Etro, and Missoni this fashion week. Miuccia Prada opened her SS13 collection using stiff satins, origami folds, and blooming florals, where she turned Kimono dressing into an affair fit to rival the modern-day Geisha -- and did you spot those radical shoes on the models’ feet!

Meanwhile Emilio Pucci’s Spring collection featured several Asian-inspired looks, through the lens of Vietnam; we saw gorgeous silk jackets embroidered with traditional motifs, kimono-style dresses, and dragon print embroidery adorning stunning garments. A hot look sure to be snapped up by red-carpeters for next Spring! Missoni, brilliantly took the labels signature knitwear and colorful stripes for a trip across the Indian Ocean and into Asian waters, where a sudden break of minimalism, use of white, and Japanese anime trends felt like a natural transition from her signature zig-zag explosion of color... which did eventually grace the catwalk too.

“Sea, Sun, & Love”

That was the message from Dolce & Gabbana this week, where sitting on the front row you could almost smell the Sicilian streetlife, as models hit the catwalk wearing dresses printed with puppets, souvenir scarves, kitschy figurine earrings, and show stopping wicker frames that were created into voluminous silhouettes. This collection has definitely inspired a quick autumnal break to the Sicilian Islands... if we may.

More moments of marvel came from MaxMara, where simplicity spoke volumes, with their safari animated collection which championed animal prints, dusty hues, and boxy, tailored two-piece suits; challenging a mishmash of sport deluxe, colonial living, and African inspired themes.

And what about the glamor we hear you cry! Milan Fashion Week is undoubtedly one of the most glamorous fashion weeks, where the focus on expensive textiles, flesh-baring creations, perma-tanned Italians, and iconic labels have practically paved the way for red carpet looks.

Pioneering Glamour

And where there is glamour, there is Versace! This season Donatella kicked loose with a take on glamorous bohemia, amongst our favourite looks were the Versace siren fringe dresses, that came in Spring hues of tie dye; Alberta Ferretti defined femininity and glamor with her underwater sheer and lace embroidered gowns; Giorgio Armani went for glitzy and laid-back glamor with bedazzling tunic dresses; and Gucci chose upbeat 70s glamour for the Spring show.

To top off the glitzy affair, backstage exhibitions revealed a fabulous archive exhibition of Armani, amongst which Lady Gaga’s eccentric Born This Way Ball tour costume was displayed, while Jimmy Choo gypsy-chic spring shoes adorned glass display boxes, and even the reception area at Gucci's Milan HQ was a spectacle for admiration! FashionTV loves Milan Fashion Week!
