Models Turned Superheroes | Green Girls Who’ve Saved The Planet
In honor of Earth Day, FashionTV pay tribute to the world’s most beautiful woman who love to help the planet, whether it’s through small daily gestures or gargantuan eco-friendly mansions, these ladies certainly know to put the chic in eco-chic.
It’s no secret that this model has green fingers! Not only does she have her own organic skincare line called KORA, but Miranda Kerr practices eco-living as much as she can from day-to-day. From using eco-friendly light bulbs and riding a bike instead of driving, to growing her own vegetables and sporting green clothing whenever she can, Kerr is a woman of her word and continues to set an example of how it’s the small things that count. What’s more, she set on pathing the eco-path for her baby son Flynn too, when from day one he was welcomed into the world in an eco-friendly nursery laden with organic fabrics, from his mattress to blankets and clothes.
This supermodel is one of the pioneering ladies at the top of the eco-game. She is a goodwill ambassador for the UN Environmental Program and in 2011 was awarded a Global Environmental Award from New York City. She is actively involved in numerous eco-projects, from her eco-friendly flip-flop line, Ipanema Gisele Bundchen, from which she uses profits to inject back into environmental projects such as the “Tamar Project,” to help save endangered turtles; to projects closer to home as “Projeto Agua Limpa,” to help restore and preserve water quality in her hometown.
What’s more, Bundchen has built a 22,000 sq. ft. eco-mansion in California, which features an eco-friendly water supply and heating and cooling systems, as well as growing her own herbs, fruits, and vegetables. And if that’s not enough, the gorgeous green gal, has set her ambitions on educating younger generations on the positive impacts of green living with her very own online cartoon called ‘Gisele and the Green Team!’
Nineties supermodel and Karl Lagerfeld favorite, Shalom Harlow, has been known for her support of eco-fashion for over a decade. She has appeared in ads for Noir, a pioneering eco-ethical designer label out of Copenhagen; and John Patrick Organic, a trailblazing eco fashion designer who showcases at New York Fashion Week. Harlow also focuses much of her charity efforts on ecological charities such as ForestEthics and cooks with organic produce, all the while reducing her ecological footprint and continuing the mission to raise awareness.
How will you do your bit on Earth Day
