Move Over Tokyo... It’s Time For Russian Fashion Week

Posted on 16th October 2012 | Russia Fashion Week Spring 2013

This Friday, Moscow will open its doors to the 25th Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Russia -- and where there’s a celebration to be had, there’s FashionTV! Time to shake up a White Russian, and party.

Hoorah! Another fashion week! And this time all eyes are on Moscow, where more than 50 designers from Russia, Ukraine, the UK, Italy, and US will present their new collections for Spring 2013 at the stunning 17th-century Manezh exhibition space, between October 18-22.

Russians love luxury

Everyone knows that Russians love a bit of luxury, you need only take a look at the streets of Moscow to see oodles of designer stores, luxury cars, and catwalk looks adorning the boulevards to be reminded, it don’t mean a thing if you ain't got that bling! And in just a few days time, the city will play host to the biggest fashion week in Eastern Europe and undoubtedly one of the most luxurious events too.

The week will kick off with Russian haute couture fashion legend Slava Zaitsev opening the fashion carousel, as has become tradition. His theatrical designs and royal following have made him a celebrity and household name, with designers like Guy Laroche and Pierre Cardin travelling to experience the elite designer’s shows.

Where Will Supermodel Joan Smalls Be Popping Up?

Meanwhile, the super-fab supermodel Joan Smalls will be making an appearance for one day in Moscow, but this time off the catwalk! Smalls will be busy shooting for the new Mercedes-Benz CLS Shooting Brake ad campaign, as cast by none other than fashion photographer Mario Testino for his Spring 2013 fashion film. And she is looking mighty fine in that leather catsuit, if we may say!

Moscow will also see appearances from big British names like British Designer of the Year nominee Giles Deacon, who will be moving his show-stopping collection from London to Moscow for Spring 2013. While British menswear designer Oswald Boateng will be opening a pop-up store where fans will get the chance to be fitted and measured for their very own tailor-made luxury suit -- ooooh, fancy!

What’s On Around Town

Meanwhile on the party circuit, there’s going to be a fashion riot! And who can blame them? Moscow, home to some of the hottest models in the world, will be celebrating and partying backstage with fashion editors, designers, and photographers in celebration of the city’s 25th fashion week at some of the city’s classiest venues.

Vogue Café is the place to be seen, and no matter who you are, everyone dresses for a meal here as if you’re on a fashion shoot!

We’ll be keeping our eyes out for the likes of actress and model Milla Jovovich, and supermodel Natalia Vodianova, who were busy keeping the fashion parties blazing on Fashion’s Night Out 2012 in Moscow!

Go East

While New York, London, Milan, and Paris may be the world’s most famous fashion destinations, Russia is growing to be a strong contender in the fashion spot. Leading Russian designers like Tatiana Parfenova, Bessarion, Dasha Gauser, Julia Nikolaeva, Oleg Biryukov, XakaMa, Tegin, Leonid Alexeev, YeZ by Yegor Zaitsev, Lena Tsokalenko and other top names will be showing their new looks for Spring 2013 this MB Fashion Week.
