New York Fashion Week Trends: Military Looks

Posted on 15th February 2012 | New York Fashion Week Fall 2012

All over the world, we honor our military. And so do our favorite fashion designers. This New York Fashion Week top fashion designers exhibited collections with consistent military elements throughout.

Such military details included uniforms, sharp-shoulder styles, epaulets and large gold buttons. Each element exhibited was coupled with a feminine touch. It certainly feels like this Fall’s wardrobes are going to be filled with military-inspired apparel!

FashionTV collected some of the remarkable shows from New York Fashion Week. Check out our fashion designer’s urban warriors!

Alexander Wang

Alexander Wang is one of the rising designers in the elite fashion scene. In his Fall 2012 collection Wang incorporated many military aspects to his designs including leather trench coats adorned with epaulets and tailored jackets which, as a whole, depicted the appearance of a military officer. The cherry on Wang’s cake was the closure of the show. Top model Gisele Bundchen got on stage and stunned the audience with a gorgeous trench coat.

Jason Wu

Another designer that was swept by the military trend is Jason Wu. The talented designer showed sharp-shoulder jackets as well as beautiful combinations of big buttons and turtle-neck collars. Whether or not Wu was inspired by the return of the American troops from Iraq, his Fall 2012 collection made women look sexy in uniform.

Rag & Bone

Like Jason Wu, Rag & Bone also took traditional military elements and put them through a feminine filter. The epaulets and big buttons were there, but instead of looking stiff and formal, there was a luxe feel to much of the clothing, which was tailored and tapered.

Victoria Beckham

Victoria Beckham’s interpretation of the military trend included knee-high boots and detailed tailored jackets in this year’s collection. Skin-tight dresses were a major part of Beckham’s designs in addition to gold buttons, python-lined trench coats and tons of khaki!

Tommy Hilfiger Men

If you combine a cadet’s military uniform and add a touch of lifestyle, you land up with Tommy Hilfiger’s Fall 2012 Men’s collection. The American designer presented a brilliantly trendy and sexy type of sophisticated line filled with military coats, pants and shoes. While keeping true to his signature sportswear Hilfiger also grasped our attention with unique pop art color combinations like red and orange and paint splattered tees and pants -- presenting a different kind of “military” look.
