Oscar night warm-up: BAFTA 2012- Best & Worst Dressers
The awards season is on. Last week the BAFTA awards were distributed during an elegant London evening. This was a huge celebration of stars on red carpets, emotional moments and of course – a great evening for “The Artist”. This movie won seven BAFTA Awards, and tops the Hollywood gambling table for winning an Oscar for the Best Motion Picture next week.
As in every occasion, the BAFTA Awards night was a great opportunity to enjoy beautiful gowns as well as some fashion disasters. FashionTV gives you a close look at the best and worst dressed on the red carpet.
BAFTA 2012 red carpet
London Fashion Week was full of black designs. As a continuation to this trend, many Hollywood stars chose a black gown for the BAFTA evening. Most stunning was BAFTA winner Meryl Streep who looked amazing in a Vivienne Westwood black dress. The Iron Lady star wore a floor-length dress with a deep corset which is usually not something we see from her. Spreading smiles all over the place, Streep looked on the red carpet as if she had already won the award.
Another star who chose a Vivienne Westwood black dress was actress Christina Hendricks. Unlike Meryl Streep, Handricks’s gown didn’t flatter her figure and made her look look a bit clumsy.
Givenchy Vs. H&M
Apart from black, gold gowns were also very popular on the red carpet. The Help star Jessica Chastain and beautiful actress Christina Ricci both went for the golden fashion choice. While Chastain chose an Oscar de la Renta design, Ricci preferred a classic Givenchy gown which made her look chic and shinier than ever.
The most surprising fashion choice of the evening was Michelle Williams’. The My Week With Marilyn star arrived in a cream and black dress by H&M. Though no top designer was behind her dress for the event, Williams looked no less than amazing. The best part of her appearance was an exceptional clutch bag – a nod to Monroe's husband Arthur Miller.

Beckham on the red carpet
While black and gold ruled the red carpet, Oscar winner Penelope Cruz stuck to her usual red. This time the red gown was designed by Giorgio Armani, and hosted a strapless boxy top. We think it’s time for a little color change, don’t you?
Not all the stars went for a sophisticated gown. Model and actress Tilda Swinton looked simple but gorgeous in her classic ivory Celine. The best thing about Swinton is she always look so fashionable, but with zero efforts. Her one ivory ring and stylish haircut added more chic and completed the effortless and stylish look.
Victoria Beckham is taking her first steps as a fashion designer. She revealed her new collection during New York Fashion Week and on the BAFTA’s red carpet. Actress Melissa George looked sexier than ever in a black floor-length, and actress Joanne Froggatt looked super elegant in a simple maxi red dress.
The BAFTA night is over. Now we can’t wait to see what the stars will be wearing on the most important red carpet of the year – The Academy Awards. FasdhionTV will be there to give you a close look at the stars, the designers and everything in between.
