Passion for Fashion: New York Fashion Week
Temperatures are cooling and summer is nearing its end. The cold season is around the corner, but for fashion lovers, it’s time to celebrate Spring/Summer fashion all over again. Fashion week season is upon us and designers are eager to show us their latest thoughts and innovations for the warmer months.
The first major and prestigious stop in this fashion journey is going to be New York. Top designers and the next generation of promising talents are going to be at the heart of a worldwide interest and will have their seasonal opportunity to WOW us.
Marc Jacobs, Diane von Furstenberg, BCBG Max Azria, Donna Karan, Tommy Hilfiger, Carolina Herrera, Vera Wang, and Lacoste are only a partial list of designers and brands that will launch their new collections during this fashionable marathon. And there are new brands that are going to fight for the fashion spotlight. One of them is designer Jenni Kayne that will launch her “Surf Sophistication” line. On an interview for ARTINFO, the designer said that this is actually an evolution collection that takes elements of surf culture and mixes it with urban sportswear. Jenni Kayne's catwalk show is set to be on September 6th.
Both Victoria Beckham and Katie Holmes will be presenting their newest collections. Although past reports have speculated they will be presenting on the same day, it turns out that Katie Holmes’ brand Holmes & Yang will be showcasing on September 12th.
Though there are many fashion businessmen, photographers and journalists to fill the front row, we wonder which show Anna Wintour will choose. Holmes & Yang is going to be a big deal due to the buzz and paparazzi photos dealing with Holmes's recent divorce from Tom Cruise. On the other hand, Victoria Beckham's collection is worth watching thanks to great designs and an innovative fashion vision. Oh, and David Beckham will probably sit front row...
Betsey Johnson always makes a bold statement at New York Fashion Week with outrageous and colorful designs that are a hit with fans and fashionistas. These days, Johnson is working on a “more affordable” collection. According to WWD, this Spring 2013 collection will include “solid and printed, sexy, flowing dresses” priced between 99$ - 249$. Will we be getting a glimpse from this unique line during the upcoming fashion week? We will have to wait and see.
