TEN YEARS STRONG: Alber Elbaz’s ten-year anniversary at Lanvin
Models, movie stars, musicians, fashion’s most fabulous faces, and lots of paparazzi came to pay homage to top designer Alber Elbaz, as he celebrates his 10 year anniversary as Lanvin’s artistic director.
FashionTV covers the show and celebration as well as brings you back to some of Elbaz’s best fashion moments.
Paris Fashion Week is always a time to remember, filled with the finest designers, fabulous fashionstas, top models, the crème della crème of editors, and the newest trends and visions for the upcoming seasons.
This year’s Fall/Winter 2012/13 Paris Fashion Week was filled with all that and more. Legendary designer, Alber Elbaz, celebrated his ten-year anniversary as Lanvin’s artistic director, and Paris Fashion Week was taken to a whole new level.
Lanvin 2002 – 2003
The remarkable guests at the Lanvin show sipped their champagne and ate their éclairs as they waited for the show to start, and once Zuzanna Bijoch and Aymeline Valade hit the runway in Elbaz’s stunning designs, it was clear why this night in Paris Fashion Week would be one to remember.
The carnival-esque celebration continued, as legendary NYC-based artist and cabaret singer, Joey Arias, wowed the front-row crowd with a performance backed by the 13-member “little orchestra” Pink Martini, and as Alber Elbaz himself joyfully sang “Que sera, sera.”
Elbaz’s celebration was one not only commemorated by a lavish party, but also by a collection that went above and beyond. Leaving the generally romantic feel of the Lanvin clothing behind, Elbaz decided to take a more dramatic approach to his 10-year anniversary show. Lanvin showcased cocktail dresses and coats in deep-chic colors of purple and sunset-yellow hues, accompanied by embellished suits with fist-size crystals, amber nuggets, metallic chains, and lace details. The shape of each design that went down the runway was carefully crafted and executed in a most exquisite manner.

Alber Elbaz was born in Casablanca, Morocco, and at the age of ten moved with his family to Holon, Israel. After his mandatory service in the Israeli Defense Forces, Elbaz studied fashion at the Shenkar College of Engineering and Design in Ramat Gan, Israel. Elbaz joined the Lanvin family in October of 2001 after his upsetting dismissal from the YSL family and ventures into Italian brand Krizia, Geoffrey Beene, and Guy Laroche. His ultimate journey into Lanvin was one that turned the once “safe” French fashion house, into one of the most influential and leading design fixtures of today.

As an elite fashion house, it is not common to find Lanvin pieces in mere retail shops. However, in 2010 Elbaz pioneered into the “high-street” market, by collaborating with leading Swedish retail clothing company, H&M. Elbaz designed a beautiful collection for the collaboration, which was presented by top-model Natasha Poly. Although the main idea behind the collection was to give H&M a more luxurious appeal, it was a way for the Lanvin name to create fashion for a broader audience.

At the end of his ten-year anniversary runway show, Elbaz exclaimed, “It's been a special ten years. But tonight is about the past and also the future, looking at romance in a new way." Past and present, FashionTV can truly say, that Alber Elbaz has been a wonder at Lanvin and we’re sure that his collections from now until forever will always make our fashionable hearts skip a beat.
