Top 5 Most Powerful Women in Fashion
Top designers Diane von Furstenberg and Miuccia Prada, American Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour, Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts and Brazilian supermodel Gisele Bundchen are all among Forbes' latest list of 100 Most Powerful Women in the World. On top of the list German Chancellor – Angela Merkel.
Once a year Forbes Magazine publishes their prestigious list of 100 most powerful women in the world. This year, five women from the fashion industry were ranked, and surprisingly the highest ranking belongs to top designer Diane von Furstenberg (and not Anna Wintour.) Von Furstenberg wat ranked at 33, mostly due to her fourth term as president of the CFDA, her upcoming collaboration with Roxy and Evian, and her second marriage to billionaire philanthropist and media tycoon Barry Diller.
Anna Wintour won the 51st spot on the Forbes list, mostly due to her increasing political power. According to the publishers, Wintour has raised more than $500,000 for the US President's re-election campaign in various fundraising events she set in motion.
The 67th place on the list belongs to Italian designer Miuccia Prada. Her fashion empire, which includes both Prada and sister label Miu Miu, is estimated to be worth $13 billion, and Miuccia holds 33.2% of the shares.
Gisele Bundchen is the world's highest paid model, but this is not the only reason she earned the 83rd spot on the list. The Brazilian supermodel and former Victoria’s Secret Angel won the honor mainly due to her philanthropic deeds. Among her activities, the magazine mentions planting over 50,000 trees in her native country and donating $1 million to the Japanese Red Cross for Earthquake program. Bundchen is now pregnant with her second child with husband Tom Brady.
Another name from the fashion industry who won a place on the annual rank is Burberry CEO Angela Ahrendts, at number 45. Ahrendts is credited for “infusing the classic clothier with Silicon Valley tech savvy.”
Other influential (and fashionable!) women ranked on the Forbes' list are Lady Gaga (#14), Beyonce Knowels (#32) and Angelina Jolie (#66).
