Overview

Trendsetter Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel started Chanel as a boutique hat shop in Paris in 1910. Today, it is one of the best known and most wanted brands. Classic Chanel couture includes pearl-embellished dresses from the ’20s, the “Little Black Dress,” and a tweed two- or three-piece suit. In 1921, she introduced perfume Chanel No.5 to the world, which became one of the best-selling fragrances of all time. Chain-linked belts and quilted leather bags are also statement Chanel pieces. After Chanel’s passing, Karl Lagerfeld joined Chanel as head designer and creative director in 1983.
