Overview

According to von Furstenberg, though she had no official experience in fashion design, she began creating a collection at Angelo Ferretti's factory with the belief that the fashion world needed a new line of dresses. In 1972, after her father invested $30,000 USD, von Furstenberg opened a showroom in New York and started designing women's clothes. Two years later, she presented her first line of knitted jersey wrap dresses. These dresses have become one of von Furstenberg's most popular trademarks. Though 80's were trying times for the designer (largely due to her divorce from Prince von Furstenberg), her fashion empire remained strong. By the mid-90s she got back on tracks and continued to push the fashion boundaries. One of her most interesting collections was launched in 2008, inspired by the Wonder Woman comic book character.
