Overview

After he graduated from graphic design, Issey Miyake flew to Paris and New York to try his hand at fashion. Miyake worked as an assistant designer at Guy Laroche fashion house and Hubert de Givenchy’s studio. In 1971, he established the Miyake Design Studio in Tokyo -- a high-end studio for women's fashion. Over the years, the Japanese designer developed a way for his clients to enjoy high-fashion designs that are also easy to make and take care of. He achieved this by using a new method of pleating, called garment pleating. Though he is well established as one of the world's top designers, Miyake is constantly searching for innovative fashion developments and new ways to inspire his fans all around the world.
