Overview

Fate prompted Louis Vuitton’s career in fashion. At the tender age of 13, Vuitton left home and embarked on a journey on foot, walking from his hometown in Jura to Paris. This two-year journey developed Vuitton’s understanding of what makes for a good traveling case. As a result, Vuitton began his fashion journey by making travel trunks, and quickly established a respected reputation for himself. In 1854, Vuitton founded his fashion house in Paris. Four years later he introduced his flat-bottom trunk that was both lightweight and airtight. Louis Vuitton's signature leather goods are considered a status symbol around the globe and are highly regarded in the fashion world. The company's iconic Monogram design created in 1896 can be considered the first designer label in contemporary history.
