Overview
Oscar de la Renta wanted to get into the fashion business because “that's where the money is.” He worked as an apprentice at Cristobal Balenciaga's fashion house until he founded his own brand in the mid 1960s. Throughout his career, de la Renta designed haute couture lines for the fashion house Balmain, making him the first Dominican to design for the French fashion house. Since 2006, de la Renta has also been designing bridal wear collections.
