Overview

Salvatore Ferragamo was a 20th-century Italian shoemaker who became synonymous with his unique handmade designs for Hollywood's royalty, like Marilyn Monroe, Audrey Hepburn, and Sophia Loren amongst others. He started his career in California during the 1920s, initially creating specifically-commissioned designs for Hollywood productions. Ferragamo quickly built his reputation as a visionary, with his designs ranging from strikingly bizarre art objects to traditionally elegant shoes, which often served as inspiration to other shoe designers of his time and beyond. The company, Salvatore Ferragamo Italia S.p.A., was founded in 1927, and today stands as one of the most prestigious and internationally known luxury brands in the world.
