Overview
Known simply by his first name, Valentino was still a teenager when he left his hometown of Voghera, to study fashion in Paris. It was in the capital of haute couture, that Valentino developed and refined his talents, working as an apprentice alongside some of the world’s top designers like Jean Dèsses and Guy Laroche. In the early-’60s, Valentino moved to Rome where he set-up his first atelier. Word soon began to spread that a brilliant new fashion designer was in town, and from here, the rise of Valentino began. By the mid-’60s, Valentino was already considered the undisputed maestro of Italian couture, and in 1967, he received the Neiman Marcus Award; considered the fashion equivalent of an Oscar. Valentino is noted as one of the most important and innovative designers in the fashion industry.
