Donna Karan Fall 2012 at NYFW: Marlene Dietrich, Modern Style

NEW YORK - Donna Karan has always been able to cater to the modern woman, but this time she did it with just a little more finesse, adding sophistication to solid separates and luxe basics through her roaring 20s and 30s theme. Just as well, menswear inspired looks were all the rage here, amplified by the Stephan Jones top hat and Fedora fascinators, sharp pinstripe dresses and trousers. (Stephan Jones, by the way, is totally having a Fashion Week moment. He also designed the over exaggerated Dr. Seuss-like mink hats on the girls at Marc Jacobs.) Karan, though a fan of the white button-down and black trousers combo, didn't showcase her tribute to menswear femme through this idea only. Instead, she included red wool dresses, long blazers, fur and sequins, goldish-brown tones in silk, black and white leopard print, and black dresses that wrapped around the body in architectural style. Marlene Dietrich would be proud.
